Matthews Studio remodeled a 1920s home in Seattle’s Queen Anne Hill neighborhood.

We created a spacious feel by reconfiguring rooms and opening them up to the dramatic views. Windows that the previous owner had closed off were brought back. A new covered walkway from garage to house provided the opportunity to build an entry vestibule off the living room. New window seats flank the fireplace, which features a custom-designed surround of cold-rolled steel.

Upstairs, new frameless windows and a large skylight above the stair bring in light. The gray palette is supplemented with muted colors and richly textured fabrics to convey an appropriately Pacific Northwest calm.
